Mountain lions, or cougars, are distinctive for their large size some weighing over 150 pounds. Including their 3-foot tail, mountain lions can be 8 to 9 feet long. Bobcats and lynx both have short tails and their body size is much smaller than a mountain lion. Bobcats differ from lynx in that they have distinctive dark spots and barring. Bobcats are generally smaller than lynx. Lynx have longer ear tufts, distinctive hair extending below their chin, huge feet, and are generally limited to northern, coniferous forests.
